Master Class with Kevin McMahon: Production, Marketing, Story Structure and Challenges
- Registration Deadline: Tuesday, September 14th, 5pm (Atlantic Time)
- This year, in partnership with the National Film Board, the Festival is pleased to have acclaimed
filmmaker Kevin McMahon lead an Inspired Doc master class. Kevin McMahon's masterclass will have three aspects. He will deconstruct the
production history of Waterlife, from the initial proposal to the final marketing of the film - which employed two web sites and extensive partnering
with civic groups. Secondly, a discussion about the creation of story structures for complex or issue-focussed documentaries will take place for those films that
do not lend themselves to traditional narrative approaches - drawing examples from Waterlife and previous films such as McLuhan's Wake,
The Falls and In Reign of Twilight. Finally, a generous portion of the class will be spent on analyzing and discussing the challenges participants are
facing in the development of their own projects. This class is targeted toward documentary filmmakers, directors and producers or any filmmaker interested
in documentary productions.
